The Best Free Things To Do In Perth With Kids

Getting the kids out of the house each day or on the weekend doesn't have to be expensive, there are lots of free things for kids to do, and places to go in Perth & WA with kids!

And just because it's free doesn't mean they wont be begging to go back again and again. As they say the best things in life are free, and there's certainly plenty free things to do in Perth and WA.

Kids Around Perth will bring you all the information you need to plan that perfect day out with the family that wont hurt your hip pocket - in fact these great places wont cost a thing except for the petrol or public transport fare to get there and back.

TRONOX Night Stalks (Sept-Oct Only)

Grab a torch and spotter’s log and discovering Australia’s wildlife under the stars! Great evening thing to do for kids, age suitability differs between each Night Stalk event. Check the website for dates, costs (some are free, some have a fee) and age suitability.

Geocaching

Find hidden treasures all over Perth and WA, this is a great way to get the kids out enjoying nature - using a free smart phone app

Meet a Mermaid!

Mermaid Amelia appears on Perth beaches and hands out shells to boys and girls, but she can only be out of the water for an hour, so join her facebook page to find out her next location (note Mermaid Amelia is currently expecting so won't be appearing in the near future)

Follow My Lead - City of Stirling Walking Groups

Herdsman Wildlife Centre Wembley 

Great educational interactive fun for only a gold coin donation.  Great place to learn about and interact with nature, includes a beautiful short nature walk.

Story Inc At Karrinyup Shopping Centre

Every Wednesday during the school term Barking Gecko read their favourite childrens story books, then children can enjoy a craft afterwards.

Radio Controlled Sailboats at Jackadder Lake 

The Perth Radio Sailing Club sails their radio controlled boats at Jackadder Lake Thursdays and Saturdays at 2pm. Public are welcome to come down and have a look!

Play a game of Disc Golf on one of the free courses in Greenwood & Floreat.

Hossack Reserve, Parkwood Bike Track

Great place to teach kids of all ages about the road rules on this great fully road marked and signed bike track

Jandakot Airport Viewing Area

Pack a lunch or enjoy something from Aviators Cafe while you watch planes take off all day long!

Esplanade Youth Plaza

They'll love skateboarding or riding their scooter all day long.  There are also some great play features here to challenge their coordination, balance and strength.

Water Labyrith Forrest Place Perth City

Bring a spare change of clothes on your next trip to the city, so the kids can take on the water maze in Forrest Place

Perth State Library 

Check out The Place, this is a special section of the library just for the kids. There are special activities, and storytime is at 11am every Wednesday. Check the website for activity times and information relating to baby change facilities, pram access and bringing food.

FESA Education & Heritage Centre - fun, educational, interactive & FREE!

Check out the early education space, get some take home activities, dress up like a fire fighter, see a vintage fire truck and more! 10-4pm Tuesday & Thursday only!

Perth Cultural Centre Playspace 

Enjoy a coffee while the kids have a play - they'll love this little play space found just outside the Perth Museum.

Western Australian Museum 

So much to see and do here, exhibitions, displays, activities and more! ($5 suggested donation for entry)

Northbridge Piazza & Super Screen

Free Flicks (Aug - Feb), family and grown up sessions. Bring a picnic, pull up a bean bag (provided) and enjoy a free movie. Check the website for screening times

Kings Park Synergy Parkland 

Follow the dinosaur prints and find the ancient fossils. Playground and mist forest. Recommended for children 6 years and over (due to water hazards in this area). For younger children checkout the huge playground in the Kings Park - Lotterywest Family Area

Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park

Give the kids a chance to get back to nature! Entry is free and kids can wade in the creek, build cubby houses with sticks and climb over rocks and up the tree hides.

Creative Native Aboriginal Art Gallery and Emporium Forrest Chase
