Neil Hawkins Park, located lake side along Lake Joondalup, is a beautiful park and playground that is rich in nature and is perfect for a family get together or outing.
With beautiful rolling green grass areas and the back drop of Lake Joondalup, Neil Hawkins Park is a nature haven for young families. The kids will love heading out onto the jetty to see the ducks and swans.
There are several small shaded areas with a few gas barbeques located near these shaded areas. Toilets are located right alongside the playground, making this a great location for a birthday party of family get together.
The playground is set a fair way back from the lake which is great and is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers with lots of ground level play items, which includes a couple of musical items and see-saws.
There are these cute little train carriages, one which features a little slide that my 2 yo just loved. For the bigger kids there is a larger play structure with slide, however there are no swings in this playground. The playground is semi-enclosed and is perfect for younger children, but the big kids will love it too.
You are bound to see lots of bird life at Neil Hawkins Park
Take a walk out onto the jetty and have a look out to Lake Joondalup there are so many ducks and other water birds to see
This park is the perfect place for a toddler birthday party with plenty of grassed area around the playground and a barbeque and shade close to the play area making it easy to keep an eye on the little ones. There are other barbeques located under shaded areas throughout the park too. The playground and the rest of the park has excellent natural shade too.
There is no coffee nearby but there was a mobile coffee and an icecream van there while we were there.
Several pathways wind through the park and continue onto bush walks so kids may like to bring their bikes or scooters. Also there are a couple of tracks in each direction that take you on a bushwalk or bike ride too.
If you take the track to the north about 600m there is a great viewing platform overlooking Joondalup Lake, this makes a great short round walk with younger kids. The path is bitumised the whole way so it's suitable to do with a bike, scooter or pram.
What to bring? There is plenty of room to run around so bring a ball to kick. Bring a picnic rug if you would like to enjoy a picnic on the lawn and of course barbeque equipment and food. Kids and parents may enjoy a bike ride after having a play so bring the bikes or scooters along if you are interested in a nature ride.
Safety Considerations closely supervise children as there is access to the lake edge and young children should be closely supervised on the jetty. Be careful of tiger snake activity partiuclarly in the warmer months and try to stick to pathways and avoid bush areas where possible.
