We are lucky to live in a wonderful city that hosts so many free family friendly events, month after month. Here are the top FREE January 2017 Perth Family Events, so you can enjoy a day or night out with the family that won't break the bank.


Sunday 1st - New Years Day Fireworks Shelley Foreshore

The City of Canning hosts a family friendly concert alongside the Canning River, including children’s activities, delicious food choices and live music. Be "wow"ed by the display of fireworks at the end of the evening. 3.30pm - 8pm. www.canning.wa.gov.au



Sunday 14th - Extreme Water Sport Fun Day Bold Park City Beach

Head to the new Bold Park Aquatic Centre for free admission on their Extreme Water Sports Day! There will be plenty of fun water activities on offer including the ever popular giant inflatable slide - a great way to test out your balancing skills! Great prizes and giveaways on offer during the day. 12-4pm. www.cambridge.wa.gov.au

Monday 16th - Friday 20th - Westfield Carousel Octonauts Live Show

Captain Barnacles and his host Steve are going to take the Octo-cadets through Octo-training. When the Octo-alert goes off the Octo-cadets are going to have to have to help Captain Barnacles and Steve save the Electric Torpedo Ray who is stuck in the bubble engine. Will they get the eel to safety? And will Captain Barnacles save the day?

Saturday 21st - Scorchers Family Fun Day Caversham

This event is family friendly and is FREE. Come along and enjoy an afternoon out with your family and friends, as well as support the Perth Scorchers in their Rebel Women's Big Bash League Match versus Sydney Thunder. There will be a slip' n slide, bungee run, airbrush tattoo artists, wonderful balloon creations and much, much more. Gates Open 1pm, game starts at 2pm. Saturday 21st - Water Play Day at Austin Lakes

While the big kids enjoy the Ninja Challenge, slide, dunk tank & bouncy castle, the little ones will have fun in the covered infant paddle pool zone. Parent's aren't forgotten with a mobile cafe lounge, including 2 masseurs so you can relax while the kids have fun! 10-2pm. Saturday 21st - Summerset Arts Festival Scarborough

The City of Stirling hosts 17 days (January 20th - February 5th) of free and affordable entertainment for the ninth annual Summerset Arts Festival. Our pick is the free Make Your Own Balloonie Ball (suitable for juggling, squeezing and catching in the air) followed by the free live entertainment Under The Sky Session featuring free local and live acoustic music.

Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd - Fringe World Little Pleasures Northbridge

FRINGE WORLD hosts a bunch of wondrous activities turned up and toned down especially for little human's entertainment. Hosted throughout The Pleasure Gardens, these free activities will bring you Fringe fun that will have your toddlers to ten year olds really immersed in Fringe fun. Other free Fringe events run through January and February.

Our free Fringe World event pick is Little Pleasures at The Pleasure Garden NorthbridgeGet Fringe-y with your family this year as FRINGE WORLD hosts a bunch of wondrous activities turned up and toned down especially for little human's entertainment. Hosted throughout The Pleasure Gardens, these free activities will bring you Fringe fun that will have your toddlers to ten year olds really immersed in Fringe fun. 3-5pm, January 21st & 22nd.

Thursday 26th - Australia Day Celebration Zone South Perth

Presented by the City of South Perth and Supported by Lotterywest, the Australia Day Celebration Zone is the place to be for families. Spanning over 10 hectares along the South Perth foreshore, the event features multiple areas with 100 free activities suitable for toddlers to adults, a range of food vendors and ample shade and picnic areas for families to enjoy. The event provides the opportunity to come together and enjoy Australia Day in a safe, alcohol and smoke free environment. 3-7.30pm.

Saturday 28th - One Day In Fremantle

Presented by the City of Fremantle, the free, family-friendly event is a culturally-inclusive alternative to traditional Australia Day celebrations that will see some of Australia’s finest artists take to the stage. The Esplanade Reserve will host performances by world-class artists John Butler, Dan Sultan and Mama Kin, as well as a series of family friendly art workshops and activities.

Sunday 29th - MiLi Markets & Events Familly Fun Day Joondalup Resort

A day of fantastic family fun with markets, kid’s activities, golf, DJ and more! Entry is free and free events for the day include: Face Painters 10am – 2pm, Balloon Twister 10am - 5pm, Bouncy Castle 10am – 5pm, Kids Golf Games with George 1pm – 4pm, SNAG (Starting New at Golf) lessons. Free Outdoor Cinema Events

Take advantage of the warm summer evenings and head to one of the free outdoor movies being screened around Perth during January. Bring along a picnic for the ultimate cheap night out.
