The winds have blown a new kiteracing event to Perth’s shores! The inaugural Kiteracing Oceanic Championships will be held over six days at Leighton Beach in Fremantle, from 10 to 15 December 2013.
There’ll be plenty of action on the water with course racing and air jumps to wow everyone. On Saturday (14 December) catch Australia’s longest kiteboarding race, the Lighthouse to Leighton, with the competitors tackling 19km of Indian Ocean from Rottnest Island to Leighton Beach, in its fourth year.
Back on land there will be a whirlwind of extra curricular activities including twilight movies in the sand, family entertainment, tasty pop-up food outlets, live music, street performers, kiting clinics, beach sports and more.
Best of all, it's free to come along! The kids will love the colourful kites dancing on the water, and stay entertained with the beach festival on land.
We recommend catching the train to North Fremantle station and walking to Leighton beach.
