Nature Based Play | BBQs | Picnic Shelter | Toilets (TBC)
Birdwood Nature Playground in the Sunset Heritage Precinct Dalkeith is located in a beautiful natural setting with some of Perth's best views of the Swan River. The Sunset Heritage Precinct was re-opened to the public in 2016 with the area rich in history dating back to 1904. Historical buildings remain in place and under conservation however you can walk around the heritage grounds (which span over 7.9 hectares) and of course enjoy the playground, facilities and views here.
In May 2015, a small 1,993sqm parcel of land - less than two per cent - was sold to the Sultan of Johor with the proceeds used to restore essential services. The contribution was used to fund this children's nature playground.
The playground is nature based with all wooden play features including a large fort access by ladder or cargo net climb, and offering even more amazing views of the river from the top.
The playground is naturally shaded, with lovely shaded offered in the afternoon. Other play features include monkey bars, balancing logs, wooden xylophone, talk tube and birds nest swing.
A partly covered shelter and seating is located near the playground that includes BBQs. We couldn't see toilets during our visit but according to a recent media release a toilet block was to be installed. We will update this information after we have visited again.
