- For little children consider having a Halloween Party at home. Make some fun themed snacks and hang some decorations, and enjoy being visited by trick or treaters.
- Were possible trick or treat in the daylight hours. If trick or treating in the evening either dress the kids in a bright costume and/or get them to wear glow bracelets and carry a torch.
- Consider putting flyers in the houses of your street and surrounding streets asking them to hang a balloon out the front if they wish to participate (this may avoid the possiblity of a visit to the Halloween Grinch!)
- Insist that your children not eat the lollies until you get home. You should closely inspect lollies and ensure they have not been tampered with
- If trick or treating in the evening or dark only enter houses that are lit
- Don't enter the yard if there is a dog present
- Parents should always stay where they can clearly see the children, don't wait at the bottom of the driveway if you cannot see them
- Closely supervise children when walking between houses and remind them to check each driveway for cars exiting or entering. Masks that restrict vision should be taken off while walking between houses
- Check with your local council or government to see if safe trick or treating zones (see our Halloween in Perth page for links to safe trick or treating areas) have been set up in your area
- For something a bit different and fun why not head out trick or treating and hand out sweets and treats
- Most of all stick together, keep an eye out for one another and have fun
