Mason Garden Park Dalkeith is home to an amazing turtle pond where you can find tens of Oblong Turtles. You can can get up close to them and even feed them if you purchase food from the council. As if this wasn't cool enough you can also enjoy exploring the enchanted garden and follow an art trail around the park - as well as having a play at the playground too.
In the centre of this park is Masons Garden Turtle Pond. It's a fenced area with a few access gates that let you access viewing areas, so you can go inside and get a closer look at the Oblong Turtle that this pond nutures. We saw tens of these turtles and as you can imagine it was a big thrill for the kids.
You can enjoy observing the turtles but don't disturb them or climb on the rocks and most importantly don't try to feed them unless you are feeding them dried fish that you have purchased from the City of Nedlands Council Administration Centre.
Once you've met the turtles head over to the playground and you will find a sign that starts you on an art trail. Start at the sign and follow the artwork around the park from from #12 to #1.
The kids will love running through the park finding the artwork in number order, and of course they will want to have their photo taken with them all.
You'll find #1 in the parks dense garden - my boys called it the enchanted garden. You can wander through this beautiful garden with low hanging canopy and dense bushland, and make your way back to the playground area.
The playground isn't anything special just a small toddler play structure and swings, and a climbing frame. The kids loved the climbing frame though with a different climbing challenge on each side.
If you are prepared bring a long a basketball and tennis racket and have some active family time on the half court basketball and tennis wall. There is a path that goes all the way around the park too, so it's a good park for bringing along the scooter. And of course there is lots of grassed area so you can enjoy kicking a ball and having a run around or climbing a tree or two.
Seeing the Oblong Turtles will be the highlight of your visit to Mason Gardens. Visit the City of Nedlands Council on the way and purchase some dried fish food and feed them while you are there. This is an amazing and unique nature experience for kids. Mason Gardens Dalkeith is a lovely, shady park and is highly recommended if you are looking for somewhere to enjoy a family walk. The whole family will love exploring this park together.
