Rottnest Island - Free Things To Do
Unfortunately most things cost a little bit more on the island, and it's not renowned as a cheap family holiday location, but with a bit of planning there are some free things you can do with the whole family.
1. Get a Rottnest Island Passport
Head to the Salt Store and ask for a Rottnest Island Passport.
Then head to the General Store, Museum and Visitors Centre and ask them to stamp your passport.
These passports are great for taking back home for news or show and tell, and make a fantastic souvenir.
(Also for only $2 you can get a great Rottnest gold coin from the Visitors Centre perfect for sticking in the passport)
2. Have a family game of tennis
Bring some tennis racquets and balls along and have a family game of tennis. Tennis courts are located at Bathurst and at Geordie Bay - no bookings required.
3. Have a family game of basketball
Bring a basketball along, there's a basketball ring on one of the tennis courts at Bathurst (pictured above).
4. Check out the huge fish tank at Indianic Surf
Located across from the General Store in the main mall
5. Have a play at one of the 4 great playgrounds
Thomson Bay South
Main Mall Thomson Bay
Geordie Bay General Store
6. Ride to one of Rottnests great family beaches
Plenty of great swimming and snorkelling beaches located around the settlement at Thomson Bay, Bathurst (Pinky Beach at Bathurst pictured below) and Geordie Bay
7. Take the footy and kick some goals
Head down to the oval located near the camping ground and get a family game of footy going.
8. Take in one of the FREE walking tours
There are several free walks available, History of the Settlement, Quokka Walk, Reefs & Wrecks Walk and the Salt Lakes Walk. See the Visitors Centre for more information on walk times. Free Walk Information...
