We are lucky to live in a wonderful city that hosts so many free family friendly events, month after month. Here are the top FREE April 2019 Perth Family Events, so you can enjoy a day or night out with the family that won't break the bank.

Friday 5th to Sunday 7th -  Joondalup Festival

Enjoy a fun-packed three days of live entertainment and alfresco eating and drinking at Joondalup Festival. Featuring oversized and interactive art installations, circus, music, comedy, children’s shows and more, there is something to tickle everyone’s fancy. There are so many things to discover at Joondalup Festival! All events within the festival are free and family friendly. The Festival will feature live music, International street performers and circus stars, children’s activities, talks, stargazing nights, theatre performances for young and old, oversized and immersive art installations, food trucks, a licensed area and community projects including the Twilight Lantern Parade and Community Choral Project. Friday 5:30pm - 11pm, Saturday 2pm - 11pm, Sunday 2pm - 8pm. Central Park, 187 Grand Boulevard, Joondalup.

Friday 5th to Sunday 7th - ART TRA Light Festival, Claremont

See Claremont Park transform into an interactive outdoor gallery for three spectacular nights this April. Light up your night as you take an illuminating stroll through the park and soak up the glow of the original light installations. 15 original light themed installations created by Western Australian artists, a special light installation created by Freshwater Bay Primary School students, roving entertainment with a special performance every night at 8pm and delightfully delicious food stalls and a pop-up bar from The Claremont Hotel. This is a free event for the whole community. 5pm - 9pm nightly. Claremont Park, Bay view Terrace, Claremont.

Saturday 6th - Autumn River Festival, Ascot

Treat the family to a fun-filled day by the river and enjoy a variety of FREE activities and entertainment! There is something for everyone to enjoy at the City's free Autumn River Festival at Garvey Park. Try out free water activities on the beautiful Swan River including stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking; delight your taste buds with delicious gourmet eats and our famous fish and chips; enjoy beverages from the Watering Hole; entertain the kids with the free Urban Golf Challenge, inflatables and Supa Sizzler ride; and enjoy the talents of musicians Sartori & Gamble, Little Bird and Arthur King. 12pm - 8pm. Garvey Park, Fauntleroy Ave, Ascot.

Saturday 6th - Alkimos Vista Colour Party

Celebrate the opening of the Alkimos Vista Display Village, Sales & Information Centre, Picasso Park and reopening of Sprout Community Hub. There will be an explosion of fun FREE activities to inspire your creative spirit including  Live DJ, Kite Display, Giant Maze, Kite and Wind Chime Craft Making, Face Painting, Mini Art Canvas Workshop, and so much more! 1pm - 4pm. Alkimos Vista, Picasso Promenade, Alkimos.

Saturday 6th - Cockburn Cultural Fair, Atwell

Bring the family along and be inspired by the diversity of foods and culture right on your doorstep. This event highlights the many cultural communities of Cockburn and this year there will be a wide variety for you to experience. Performances include, Chinese Folk Dancers, Taiko Japanese Drums, Alpen Duo, and a Live cooking demo with 2018 Masterchef Brendan Pang. Other activities include go carting, face painting, henna, basket weaving, mold painting, camel riding and critter displays. Cockburn's Got Talent grand final will be held early in the day so be sure to come along and support your local talent. Activites are free but bring cash to use at the stalls on the day. 1pm - 6pm. Harmony Park, Harmony Ave, Atwell.

Saturday 6th - Autumn River Festival, Bayswater

One of the biggest events on Bayswater’s calendar, the Autumn River Festival celebrates the natural beauty of the Swan River. Get ready for carnival rides, children’s entertainment, market stalls, a fantastic range of food vendors and more.  2pm - 7pm. Bayswater Riverside Gardens, King William St, Bayswater.

Saturday 6th - Subiaco Street Party

The Subiaco Street Party, Subiaco’s biggest community event returns, with the theme ‘Around the World’, celebrating four distinct zones from around the globe. Check in with the concierge to be provided with a special event passport for exploring new experiences across four themed zones, including the Americas, Mediterranean, Asia and Down Under. A journey that includes pop-up bars, food trucks, music, dance, performances, interactive workshops and kids activities. 2pm - 9pm. Rokeby Rd and Hay St, Subiaco.

Saturday 6th - Holland Park Community Fun Day

Head along for a FREE Community Fun Day at Holland Park Estate. There will be activities for all ages including Cricket, Handball and a kicking target game, high kick competition, A group game of British Bulldog, Baseball, Capture the flag and rob the nest, Leaderball, Sack races and some egg and spoon races, and relays. There’ll also be a bouncy castle and refreshments provided. And yes, everything is FREE at our Community Fun Day. 2pm - 4:30pm. Holland Park Estate, Wildflower View, Piara Waters.

Sunday 7th - Bickley Community Open Day, Orange Grove

A once a year chance to get to experience a unique piece of the outdoors at the free Bickley Outdoor Recreation Camp Community Open Day. Come and challenge yourself and try activities such as canoeing, vertical challenge, catapults and reptile education for free. There will be activities suitable for all ages. 10am - 4pm. Bickley Outdoor Recreation Camp, Hardinge Rd, Orange Grove.

Sunday 7th - Progress Street Party, Morley

The Progress Street Party will be highlighting Morley's dominant cultures being Indian, Italian, Vietnamese, Polish, Filipino, Chinese and English. All who attend will feel like they're being taken on a journey through these countries, with the various smells, sounds and tastes, causing a sensory overload. Food trucks, cultural activities and performances, kid's zone, main stage and roaming entertainment, this street party will cater to adults and children and have a unique twist. 1pm - 7pm. Progress St, Morley.

Tuesday 9th - Ben and Jerry’s Free Cone Day, Various Locations

Since 1979, it’s been Ben & Jerry’s way to celebrate and say thanks to their awesome fans for another year of support, and they’ve kept it up every year since, spreading the peace, love & FREE ice cream around the world! You'd better start thinking about the tough decisions you'll need to make: Which Flavour? Cup or cone? Who's coming with you? Saturday 13th to Sunday 28th - Shopping Centre School Holiday Activities

Shopping Centre activities are a great idea for the school holidays, and a fun free thing to do with kids in Perth. Many shopping centres in Perth and the surrounds offer free activities and events throughout the school holidays. Check out our list to find out what's happening at your local shopping centre.

Saturday 13th - From Little Things Big Things Grow, Como

Come and help create South Perth’s biggest field of flowers and pinwheels from recycled materials or join in the cardboard construction. There are no limits to what can be created! A range of activities will be on offer to suit all ages, including a bake sale, playdough, kids yoga, book swap and reading nook, science experiments and musical activities. This is a free event. 10am - 1pm. McDougall Park Community Kindergarten, Henley St, Como.

Saturday 13th - Lords Recreation Centre Open Day

Stop by Lords on Saturday 13 April for a jam-packed, fun-filled day for the whole family. With free entry, fun activities and prizes up for grabs, this is one event you don't want to miss! Bring your friends and family along and enjoy:

Free entry to the centre all day,  Free group fitness classes all day, The chance to win a TWELVE MONTH MEMBERSHIP,  Try out the new Technogym cardio gym equipment, Visit the dedicated kids zone, complete with face painting and a bouncy castle, Tour the newly refurbished change room facilities and prizes and giveaways galore! 10am - 2pm. Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th - Buddha’s Birthday and Multicultural Festival, Perth

The festival will be buzzing with activities during the  2-day event to spread the message of ‘Respect & Tolerance and ‘Faith and Legacy’. We hope to promote harmonious co-existence among people, and provide visitors an insight into Buddhist teachings and philosophy as a way of life to bring about peace and happiness. It is a family friendly, smoke-free and alcohol-free event which provides the community and people of all ages an opportunity to see, hear and taste a variety of experiences through ceremonies and rituals, cultural displays and exhibits, vegetarian food and multicultural entertainment. Entry is FREE and everyone is welcome. Saturday 11am - 8:30pm and Sunday 9am - 5pm. Supreme Court Gardens, Riverside Drive, Perth.

Saturday 13th - Fab Fun Day Out, Belmont

Grab your bike, scooter or skateboard and head to the Fab Fun Day Out to celebrate Youth Week! Don't skate? There's still plenty to do! We'll have a DJ spinning beats throughout the day, a petting zoo to get your cute fix, tasty food, a place to embrace your artistic streak and bungee trampolines! There's something for everyone. This is a free event. No tickets are required, just come down for a fun day out! 12pm - 3pm. Belmont Skate Park, Abernethy Rd, Belmont.

Sunday 14th - Amberton Beach Kite Festival, Eglinton

Don't miss the kite flying display and the popular and majestic lolly drop from the sky!Come along and enjoy: FREE kite-making workshop, FREE face-painting, FREE kite surfing training by Shore Water Sports, FREE coffee, FREE iced-chocolates, FREE ice-cream, FREE slushies, Live acoustic duo and more. 2pm - 5pm. Amberton Sports Oval, Cinnabar Drive, Eglinton.

 Monday 15th to Friday 26th - Tree Trail, Carine

Branch out, meet our trees and have fun as you explore the City of Stirling’s Tree Trail during the school holidays. The trees will come alive to share their stories as you follow the Trail and solve the Secret Message to win a plantable prize! Look out for Eco Faeries and Bindi Bindi Dreaming along the Trail between 9.30am and 12.00 noon each weekday of the school holidays. And don’t forget to say hello and write a message to The Message Tree. This is the perfect opportunity to leave the iPads at home and keep the kids busy! Suitable for children ages 4 – 11 years. Friday 19th to Monday 22nd - Fremantle International Street Arts Festival

Each year over the Easter long weekend, the streets of Fremantle are transformed into an open-air theatre of the amazing, weird and wacky, while Fremantle’s famous alfresco dining steps up a notch, with pop-up bars and eateries extending into the streets. Entertainment centres around several major ‘pitches’ or performance locations and roving performers pop up in surprising and interesting places all across the City. 10am - 9pm daily. Market St, Fremantle.

Sunday 28th - Attree Real Estate’s Kids Carnival, Harrisdale

A FUN day filled with FREE carnival rides, kids activities, market stalls, busking entertainment, food trucks & more! 3pm - 7pm. Harrisdale Pavillion, 83 Gravefield Boulevarde, Harrisdale.

Free Outdoor Cinema Events

Take advantage of the warm summer evenings and head to one of the free outdoor movies being screened around Perth during April. Bring along a picnic for the ultimate cheap night out.
