Top Free August Family Events Perth

We are lucky to live in a wonderful city that hosts so many free family friendly events, month after month. Here are the top FREE August 2018 Perth Family Events, so you can enjoy a day or night out with the family that won't break the bank.

Saturday 4th - Toodyay International Food Festival and Family Fun Day

Celebrate the 2018 Avon Descent and fourteenth annual Toodyay International Food Festival and Family Fun Day. You will have the perfect view of the Avon Descent whilst enjoying all the thrills and spills from dry land! Tempt your taste buds with dozens of stalls offering an incredible range of mouth–watering international cuisine, as well as boutique beer, wine and cider.  Watch the main stage come to life with a diverse range of performances inspired by cultures from around the globe and headlining acts not to be missed. Kids of all ages have been catered for too, with free bouncy castles, face painting and balloon twisting running throughout the day. 10am -4pm. Stirling and Duidgee Parks, Toodyay.

Sunday 5th - Avon Descent Festival, Caversham

The Avon Descent Festival returns to Lilac Hill with their biggest program of family fun yet!  Soak up the jam-packed program of live entertainment on the Perth Airport Main Stage which will feature performances by Duncan Saige, Lulus Entertainment , Junkadelic and ZAP CIRCUS. Offstage the festival will feature a very special edition of The Vintage Collective Markets Perth Western Australia, a Pop-Up Eatery, fair rides and inflatables in the Movida Estate Fun Zone, giant bubbles, drumming workshops, the Midland Gate Massage Retreat, Swan Valley giveaways and much, much more. Cheer loud and proud as the Avon Descent competitors zoom past in their quest for victory. There’s FREE parking opposite the site and a free shuttle bus from Guildford train station all day. Festivities kick off at 10am and run through to 3pm. Lilac Hill Park, 6000 W Swan Rd, Caversham.

Sunday 5th - Avon Descent Finish Line Family Fun Day, Bayswater

Cheer on the competitors as they cross the finish line at Riverside Gardens. Enjoy food trucks, market stalls, entertainment and activities for the whole family. Entry is free. 11am - 6pm. Bayswater Riverside Gardens, King William St, Bayswater.

Sunday 5th - Avon Descent Family Fun Day, Ascot

Get up close to all of the action at the City of Belmont free Family Fun Day and celebrate the Avon Descent! Bring the family to Garvey Park, Fauntleroy Avenue in Ascot on Sunday, 5 August from 11.30am to 3pm. Enjoy live race commentary on the banks of the beautiful Swan River in a large marquee with seating. Cheer on competitors as they head towards the finish line of this gruelling 124km white water race. There will be free children’s activities, a Junior Sports Expo and helicopter rides (costs apply) to enjoy.

Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th - Targa West Rally Car Race, Various locations around Perth

Make Smoking History Targa West is a unique Motorsport event that brings all the action to you. Unlike traditional motorsport, where you have to go to a race track to watch, competitors in Targa West visit a number of locations including Yagan Square, Whiteman Park, City of Kalamunda (including the famous Zig Zag), Northbridge, Toodyay, Chittering, Maryville Downs, Bullsbrook, Malaga before the grand finalé flat out alongside Riverside Drive in the City of Perth Special Stage. Spectating at the Make Smoking History Targa West is absolutely FREE.

Friday 10th - Sunday 12 - Perth Pregnancy, Baby and Childrens Expo

Chat face-to-face with our wide range of Exhibitors to gain up-to-date, expert advice on the early years of parenting. Saturday 11th - Livelighter SJ Community Fair, Mundijong

All the fun of the fair comes to Mundijong for one boisterous and entertaining day. On display will be:- Art, Photography, Textiles, Metalwork & Woodwork in the building, Street entertainment throughout the day featuring the Highland Pipe Band and African Drumming Band, Sideshow alley & showbags, Market & food stalls and vans, Animal farm for the kids, Landcare will host Ranger Red, SJ Food & Farm Alliance, Roger's Native Seedling trailer, Dieback Working Group, Didier Walks, Michelle's Buzzy Bee Wax Wraps, Colleen's Homemade Bags,  Batting cage for t-ball kids at the Byford Bushrangers stand,  Slot cars, Vintage motorcycles, Vintage tractor display ... and so much more. Entry is free, however additional charges may apply for rides. 10am - 4pm. Paterson St, Mundijong.

Saturday 11th  and Sunday 12th - WA Museum Discovery Zone, Perth

Build-a-Bug at the Western Australian Museum’s Discovery Zone in the State Library, Perth. Learn how the anatomy of an insect affects its abilities and relationship to its environment by designing your very own insect. 10am to 2pm. State Library of WA, Perth Cultural Centre, Perth.

Sunday 12th - Mini Beasts in the Park Field Day, Perth

Join Mini Beast experts from the WA Museum, Murdoch University, Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development at Lake Vasto/Ozone Park for hands-on experiences with Mini Beasts. There will be: Regular tours of the area with a Mini Beast expert, Specimen displays, Information on Citizen Science and Biodiversity, Microscopes for you to see right up close to some WA Museum insects and Examples of equipment that experts use to map biodiversity. 10am - 4pm. Ozone Reserve, 1 Adelaide Terrace, Perth.

Sunday 19th - Celebration of Science Community Expo, Wilson

Get in touch with science and sustainability at this 10 year anniversary of the Expo!! Celebrate technology and achievements in science with hands on activities, workshops, presentations and displays for the whole community! Something for all ages - kids, teens, adults. Free entry and everyone welcome. 10am - 3pm. Canning River Eco Education Centre, Kent St, Wilson.

Wednesday 22nd – Pre Schoolers Morning Waterford Plaza

Come on down and join us at Waterford Plaza for our FREE Pre-Schooler Morning. There will be live entertainment, followed by a Meet 'n Greet. There will also be a great themed craft workshop station. 10am - 11.30am.

Sunday 26th - Rockingham Arts Centre Open Day

The Rockingham Arts Centre is turning five and they are celebrating. Bring along the whole family and try out some fun art activities including, screen printing (BYO t-shirt), pop stick art, decoupage, make a party hat, and lots more. Free face painting for the kids, plus a drum circle at 10am. 9am - 1pm. Rockingham Arts Centre, 11 Kent St, Rockingham.

Saturday 25th - Perth Eid Festival

The Perth Eid Festival commemorates the biggest day of the Islamic calendar and will provide the people of Perth with the opportunity to immerse themselves in different cultures from all over the world. Australia is a beautiful country filled with diverse groups from various ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds and this festival not only hopes to celebrate Eid but also to pay homage to the diversity and multiculturalism that is a core part of our society. This is a FREE event and all are welcome - it is sure to be a fantastic fun-filled day for the entire family! 12noon - 8.30pm.

Sunday 26th -  A Taste of Chittering

One of the largest and fastest growing free community events north of suburban Perth, A Taste of Chittering has been running since 2013 and this year upgrades its location to Nesci Estate Wine Farm in Lower Chittering, showcasing the produce, lifestyle and community that make Chittering such a unique place to live and discover.

Wednesday 29th - Bunnings Father's Day Family night

Head to your nearest Bunnings Warehouse to celebrate Father's Day with your family. Activities differ by store, but usually include free activities, bouncy castle and sausage sizzle. Check your local Bunnings for times and activities.
