Top Free December Family Events Perth

We are lucky to live in a wonderful city that hosts so many free family friendly events, month after month. Here are the top FREE December 2017 Perth Family Events, so you can enjoy a day or night out with the family that won't break the bank.

Friday 1st – Celebrate Ability, Manning Park Spearwood

Try new things and meet new people in a safe and supportive environment. Celebrating the International Day of People with Disability, this fun event will include a whole range of inclusive activities to celebrate everyone’s abilities, promote community involvement and highlight the community’s ongoing commitment to breaking down access and inclusion barriers. There will be Information stalls on a range of helpful services, Bubble disco dome (fully inclusive), Cuddly animal petting farm, Performances by local dance groups, Sand cards - colouring in using sand, Visit from Santa, and many other FREE activities. With so many things on offer, this event is a great way to discover new things and to meet new people within your community. 10am – 1pm.

Friday 1st – Cottesloe Village Christmas Party

Stretching throughout the heart of Cottesloe this event will deliver an exciting range of attractions and street activations. Kids and teenagers can enjoy a variety of outdoor fun such as a petting zoo, face painting, silent disco, Santa & so much more. For the adults you can relish in the free entertainment, live music performances, free food & beverage tastings and the wonderful array of local restaurants & bars. 4pm – 9pm. Napoleon Street, Cottesloe.

Saturday 2nd – Lakelands Community Christmas Carnival

Come and enjoy a day full of FREE fun and activities for the whole family.  There will be Paint a Car, live art installations, market stalls, chalk art, live entertainment, Community Christmas Carols, Food trucks,  Outdoor cinema showcasing The Polar Express, Snow machines, and many more. PLUS a visit from Santa! 12pm – 10pm. 49 Banksiadale Gate, Lakelands.

Saturday 2nd – RAC Christmas Pageant, Perth City

Western Australia’s annual Christmas Pageant is returning to the streets of Perth to celebrate its 46th year and there are lots of new surprises in store for you. St George's Terrace is set to come alive with the colour and magic of The RAC Christmas Pageant. This year's event promises to  be packed with fun from end-to-end, including spectacular new floats, bands, music and dancing, Seven personalities including Fat Cat and, of course, Santa with his reindeers, food and beverage options and so much more!  Pageant starts at 7:30pm with pre-entertainment from 6:30pm.

Saturday 4th – Vale Display Village Activity Day, Aveley

Visit the Vale Display Village and explore the beautiful displays from WA's best builders while taking part in the free activities! From 2-4pm there will be a delicious FREE doughnut wall and coffee van on offer for parents and there will also be the Slime Science Lab and free balloon giveaways available to entertain the kids! 2pm – 4pm. Vale display village, Corner of Windermere Boulevard and Egerton Drive, Aveley.

Sunday 3rd – Shipwreck Park Launch Party, Hilbert

Try and the brand new ship themed park and immerse yourself in an island vibe as Stockland Sienna Wood bring you giveaways galore, games for the kids and much more nautical nonsense! Come along and see if you can spot the Roving Pirateman, Mesmerising Mermaid and Fantastical Face Painter! The kids will love the fun and games on the day.  There will be a range of dining options as well as coffee and drinks to keep you going. 10am – 1pm. Forrest Rd, Hilbert.

Sunday 3rd – Light up Leederville Carnival

This relaxed and inclusive celebration of all things Leederville will fill the township's streets with food, music, fashion, art and children's entertainment! Watch for what's in alleyways and hidden nooks of Leederville. The streets will be closed off to traffic during the festival which culminates in the turning on of the Leederville street christmas lights at 7:45pm at the corner of Oxford and Newcastle Streets! A fantastic opportunity for the community in and around Leederville and the wider metropolitan Perth to come and soak up the celebration in one of Perth's great cultural assets, Leederville! 12pm – 9pm. Oxford St and surrounding streets, Leederville.

Sunday 3rd – Countdown to Christmas, Curtin University Bentley

Come and celebrate the start of the holiday season with a free, fun filled afternoon at the Curtin University Bentley campus on Sunday 3 December. Festivities will be booming from 4.30pm – 8.00pm in The Forum (grassed flagpole area by Aroma Café) and include Santa Claus, Carols by the award winning Rhythmos Choir, kites, child’s play music, roaming performers, bubble play, face painting, Perth Symphony’s Brass Quintet, arts & crafts activities and workshops, Awkwardstra, food trucks, photo booths… The list goes on!

Friday 8th – A very Aussie Christmas, Eden Beach Estate Jindalee

Call your mates, grab an esky, chuck on your thongs and pack the ute- it's time for A Very Aussie Christmas!!  Join in with special Aussie games, get up close to some native Aussie wildlife with West Oz Wildlife,  sing along to some Aussie Christmas Carols led by the North Coastal Children's Community Choir, grab a feed from the food trucks and watch the a Christmas movie. 6pm – 10pm. Eden Beach Estate, Jindalee.

Friday 8th – Carols in the Park, Faulkner Park Cloverdale

Celebrate the spirit of Christmas in the City of Belmont at this year's Carols in the Park! Bring the family and a picnic blanket and sing along to your favourite carols with local school students. Enjoy special Christmas song performances by soul singers AViiDA and rock act Murphy's Lore and even a special appearance by Santa! 
The night will end with a spectacular fireworks display for all the family to enjoy. Food and drinks will be available to purchase. 6pm – 9pm.

Saturday 9th – Curtin University Nature Play Day

Nature Play WA and Curtin University are excited to announce the launch of the Curtin Nature Trail. The trail, which will go live on the Nature Play WA App on 9 December, will lead you on an exploration of ten great outdoor spaces at Curtin University's Bentley Campus, with fun nature play based activities at each stop. The Curtin Nature Play Day will have fun for the whole family, including kite making, mud kitchens, nature craft and a visit from special guests, the Eco Faeries plus much, much more! This is a free event, but registration is required at 10am – 2pm

Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th – Christmas Carnival, Perth City

The Christmas Carnival is coming to town! There will be free rides and activities for the children to enjoy. It’s the perfect day for some festive family fun. Join the City of Perth in celebration of all things Christmas. The annual Christmas Carnivals are always a hit with the families. 10am – 4pm. Forrest Place, Perth.

Saturday 9th - Christmas in Elfenbrook Festival and Pageant, Ellenbrook Central

Christmas in Elfenbrook returns for another year with 120 Market Stalls, rides, amusements & attractions, live on stage entertainment, local food outlets & vans, Junkadelic Band, Christmas Pageant, and Murphy’s Lore performing. This is a free family day out to celebrate all things Christmas & Community! 12pm -6pm. 11 Main St, Ellenbrook.

Sunday 10th – Carols at Murdoch

Bush Court provides an intimate, beautiful grassed setting for a picnic with family and friends under the trees. The venue opens at 5pm, with pre-show entertainment from 5.30pm to 7pm. This year we welcome back Channel 7’s Rebecca Nicholls as our Master of Ceremony. Travis and Jay Leggett also return once again to entertain you during the early part of the evening, followed by the Palmyra Primary School Choir who will delight you their beautiful voices singing Australian Christmas songs. From 7pm, the Variety Youth Choir will perform traditional Christmas Carols. There will be free face painting, balloon twisting, “snow” ball pit for the children to play in and of course a visit from Santa! This is a free family friendly event for all of the community to enjoy. 5pm – 8pm. Bush Court, Murdoch University, 90 South St.

Tuesday 12th – Mandurah Community Christmas Pageant

This wonderful tradition sees local community groups and businesses parade their floats through Mandurah’s CBD. After the parade head to the foreshore where you can Visit Santa’s Grotto, Watch the live nativity scene, Take part in the FREE letter to Santa workshop activity, Enjoy the FREE amusements and Listen to the wonderful Christmas carols. The night will conclude with the grand fireworks finale at 8.30pm. There is lots of family fun and excitement for all ages. 6pm – 8:30pm. Eastern foreshore, Mandurah Terrace, Mandurah.

Thursday 14th – Christmas at Lake Monger Festival, Wembley

Celebrate the festive season with family and friends at the annual Christmas at Lake Monger Festival. There will be plenty of children's entertainment, rides and live musical performances throughout the night, with our traditional finale of Christmas Carols and the turning on of the Christmas Tree lights. Bring a picnic or enjoy a range of delicious dinner options from one of the many food trucks. 4pm – 8pm. Lake Monger Reserve, Lake Monger Drive, Wembley.

Saturday 16th – Symphony in the City, Perth

This spectacular free event has become a highlight of the summer calendar for thousands of concert-goers in Perth. Lotterywest Symphony in the City is Perth’s largest free outdoor classical music concert and is the signal that summer has arrived and Christmas is around the corner. Join the Orchestra, WASO Chorus and special guest soloists for a fun-filled evening that features exciting, beautiful and heart-melting music from your favourite classical works and film music scores. 7:30pm – 10:30pm. Langley Park, Perth.

Sunday 17th – IGA Carols by Candlelight, Perth

Join Variety - the Children’s Charity of WA, and thousands of other family’s as they get into the Christmas spirit at Perth’s favourite carols event. The day will also start at the new time of 3pm, families can settle in, grab a spot and enjoy an afternoon of face painting, food stalls and pre-carols onstage entertainment. When the sun goes down and the candles are lit, the stage will be illuminated with a carols spectacular. Hosted by Channel Nine’s Louise Momber and Michael Thompson, and headlined by Damien Leith and Harrison Craig (The Voice)...and don't forget Santa! The evening will finish with a bang - a fireworks spectacular over the Swan River. 3pm – 11pm. Langley Park, Perth.

Sunday 17th – Wattle Grove Community Christmas Party

Celebrate the festive season with a free community Christmas party. Bring a picnic and enjoy free activities for the kids as well as a special visit from Santa! There will be craft activities, animal farm, face painting, bouncy castles, reptile experiences and a performance by Ruby Rainbow the Fairy. 4pm – 7pm. Wattle Grove Nature play space, Lenihan Corner, Wattle Grove.

Sunday 31st – NYE Fireworks, Mindarie Marina

Celebrate the New Year at The Marina, Mindarie with a family friendly fireworks display at 8pm, street performers, food stalls, buskers and live music from 5.30pm. 5:30pm – 12:00am. Mindarie Marina, 33 Ocean Falls Boulevard, Mindarie.

Free Outdoor Cinema Events

Take advantage of the warmer evenings and head to one of the free outdoor movies being screened around Perth during December. Bring along a picnic for the ultimate cheap night out.
