Top Free January Family Events Perth

We are lucky to live in a wonderful city that hosts so many free family friendly events, month after month. Here are the top FREE January 2018 Perth Family Events, so you can enjoy a day or night out with the family that won't break the bank.

Sunday 1st - New Years Day Fireworks Shelley Foreshore

Celebrate the start of 2018 at the City of Canning’s annual New Year’s Day Concert & Fireworks! A family friendly event alongside the iconic Canning river with some brand new installations! Entertain the kids with some incredible games and a petting zoo. There will be roving entertainment and some fantastic live music and performances - all welcomed by MC Famous Sharron.  The evening wouldn't be complete without a dazzling display of fireworks. 3:30pm – 8:30pm.

Saturday 6th - Little Makers Day Forrest Place Perth

The New Year celebrations continue in Forrest Place with a fun craft day for children. Make your own fashion spray hat, bag or t-shirt or get creative in one of the exciting themed zones; there’s something for everyone at this free family event. 10am – 3pm.

Saturday 6th - Feninan's Festival Fremantle

The Fenian Festival Family Day will be buzzing with activities and information for all the family. The WA Maritime Museum is offering free entry all day. There’ll be storytelling, activities, and art exhibitions for kids of all ages. Kids of all ages will be able to make their own kite and fly it in the breeze. Stay on till late afternoon when the whole family can join in the Ceili dance where traditional Irish musicians and a world class dance caller will teach you the steps as the sun sets slowly into the ocean. 10am – 4pm. Maritime Museum, Victoria Quay, Fremantle.

Saturday 7th - SupaNova Synchronised Swimming Have A Go Sessions, Mandurah & Kwinana

SupaNova are hosting 1 hour Give It a Go sessions at five different venues south of the river over the school holidays, FREE! This is the perfect opportunity to trial our sport ahead of our beginner StarBurst classes commencing in February. No bookings necessary. Head to the SupaNova facebook to find out where.

Saturday 13th - Madora Bay Festival and Land Sale

Everyone's invited to the Madora Bay Festival and Land Sale! With food trucks, free face painting & glitter tattoos, bouncy castles, animal petting zoo and more. 10am – 2pm. Lord Hobart Reserve, Lord Hobart Drive, Madora Bay.

Sunday 14th - Twilight Trio Concert, Victoria Park

Come one, come all and bring your dancing shoes! Join the Town of Victoria Park for a crazy dance party starting with The Popcorn Show – live hits from the Wiggles, Justine Clarke, Hi-5 and more before main act Bump 40/40 plays two amazing sets of 40 hit songs in 40 minutes guaranteed to have everyone from grommets to grandparents up and dancing. 5:30pm – 8pm. Raphael Park, 22 Gloucester St, Victoria Park.

Saturday 20th - Kwinana Requatic Open Day

Save the date for an afternoon full of fun and excitement! This free community event has something for the whole family including walking dinosaurs, bouncy castle, Critters Up Close, Pony Cycles, gaming truck and more.

Sunday 21st - Xtreme Ice Arena Have A Go Day, Mirrabooka

Head to Xtreme Ice Arena this summer for their FREE have a go day. You have the opportunity to participate and have a go in the sports you usually watch from the sidelines for absolutely nothing!  Ice Hockey - Speed Skating - Figure Skating - Synchronized Skating. This is a completely free event but you will need to register for a ticket to secure your place through eventbrite – 11:30 am.

Sunday 21st - Women's Big Bash League Perth Scorchers vs Hobard Hurricanes, Caversham

Watch the Perth Scorchers take on the Hobart Hurricanes at Lilac Hill for the final regular season game at home.
Entry is FREE! Bring down your family and friends and enjoy a day out. It's fun for everyone!  2pm – 5pm.  Lilac Hill, Caversham.

Wednesday 24th - Seaside Spectacular (Summerset Arts Festival), Scarborough

To commemorate 10 years of free and affordable events, the City of Stirling's 2018 Summerset Arts Festival will launch with a free community event; Seaside Spectacular. Amazing aerial acrobats, enchanting lolly pop lyras, trance-inducing mermaids and more will descend on the Scarborough Beach Amphitheatre for an evening of family friendly fun. This special one-off event is not to be missed.  6:30pm – 8:30pm. Scarborough Beach Amphitheatre.

Friday 26th - Monday 29th - The Sprites: Mermaid Fringe World Performance, Northbridge

The Sprites' are a swimming sensation in their own life time (just don't tell them that!). Desperate to audition for a passing carnival or really anything, watch Flossy and Fizzy prepare for greatness.

A tongue in cheek comedy and wet acrobatic show performed on, in and around FRINGE WORLD's very own Mermaid tank, this show is not to be missed. Be delighted by innocence and pointed toes. Every Saturday and Sunday at 7.15pm throughout the festival, plus Friday 26th January and Monday 29th January at 7.15pm. The Pleasure Garden, James St, Northbridge.

Thursday 26th - Australia Day Celebration Zone South Perth

Spanning over 10 hectares along the South Perth foreshore, the event features multiple areas with 100 free activities suitable for toddlers to adults, a range of food vendors and ample shade and picnic areas for families to enjoy. New in 2018 are Gutter Racing, Dart Soccer, Crossbow Golf, Giant Tennis, Inflatable Horse Racing, Penny Drop, Giant Memory Games, Labyrinth Boards, Tether Ball Pak, Toddler Sport Zone, Nerf Zone, Octopus Bouncer and Toddler Tyre Park. The event provides the opportunity to come together and enjoy Australia Day in a safe, alcohol and smoke free environment. 3 - 7.30pm. Sunday 28th - One Day in Fremantle

Join headline act Kate Miller-Heidke, DJ Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, Arnhem Land hip-hop artist Baker Boy and the incredible DJUKI MALA dancers for a free concert and celebration in the heart of Freo.  Singer-songwriter Gina Williams will return as our host and there will be plenty of family friendly activities throughout the day which will kick off with a smoking ceremony.  2pm – 8pm. Esplanade Park, Fremantle.

Sunday 28th - 6006 In The Park, North Perth

6006 in the Park will bring together local residents, businesses and musicians in a free and inclusive celebration of all things North Perth. This year’s concert is headlined by acclaimed WA indie rockers and Triple J favourites Tired Lion and includes a mixed bag of WAM Award-winning Perth talent including Felicity Groom, Rick Steele Band, Spacey Jane and a very special welcome to country performed by Whudjuk traditional owner Matthew McGuire. 6006 In The Park is paying special attention to pint-sized residents. A bouncy castle, a baby animal farm and TWO face painters will all be on hand for maximum little person enjoyment. 4pm – 9pm. Woodville Reserve Pavillion, Fitzgerald St, North Perth.

Free Shopping Centre Activities

Free Outdoor Cinema Events

Take advantage of the warm summer evenings and head to one of the free outdoor movies being screened around Perth during January. Bring along a picnic for the ultimate cheap night out.
