We are lucky to live in a wonderful city that hosts so many free family friendly events, month after month. Here are the top FREE March Perth Family Events, so you can enjoy a day or night out with the family that won't break the bank.


Friday 2nd - Monday 19th - Sculptures by the Sea Cottesloe Beach

Sculpture by the Sea will be staged on the beautiful Cottesloe Beach for another year. What's On This Labour Day Long Weekend 2018?!

Sunday 4th  – Monday 5th – Hyde Park Community Fair, Perth

For over 50 years the Hyde Park Community Fair has been delivering a fun-filled community event featuring live entertainment, arts & crafts, demonstrations, markets, sideshow rides, food, workshops, multicultural displays, educational information, business connections and much more. Presented by the North Perth Rotary Club, this not for profit event is the best value family day out of the year. 9am – 9pm Sunday and 9am – 5pm Monday. https://www.hydeparkfair.com.au/the-event 

Sunday 4th – Point Walter Concert

Once again the Point Walter foreshore will come alive with live music, children’s entertainment, and a grand fireworks finale to celebrate 50 year as a city. The music line-up consist of Big T Trio (X-Factor Finalist), Rising Sun (Cold Chisel Tribute Band), Slim Jim and the Phatts plus the Wadumbah Dance Group. 4:30pm – 8:30pm. Friday 9th – Messy Play Trail, Thornlie

Bring the kids for a morning of messy fun and sensory play with water, slime, painting, mud and more. Suitable for families with children under 5 years. 9:30am – 11:30am. Thornlie Community Centre, 14 Glenbrook Rd, Thornlie. www.gosnells.wa.gov.au

Saturday 10th – The China Pop Up, Bibra Lake

Immerse yourself in the Chinese culture at this unique pop up event. Activities include Chinese lion dance by the Chung Wah Association, Kung Fu performances by Chinese Kung Fu and Tai Chi Academy, Face painting, Inflatable fun and Chinese-themed art and craft stalls. 10am – 12pm. Saturday 10th – Retro Rewind, Yanchep

Retro Rewind is back this March so get ready to swing your hips and tap your toes as we take you back in time for a day of vintage frivolity and fun at the beautiful surrounds of Yanchep National Park. This year, three brilliant bands will grace the stage for your musical pleasure. Enjoy a spot of shopping at The Vintage Collective Markets where you can browse through more than 60 delightful stalls for that special vintage find. Other event attractions include retro arcade games and vintage lawn games. The kids will be kept entertained for hours with free activities on offer including a bouncy castle, flower crown making and face painting. Entry fees waived from 12pm onwards. 1pm – 5pm. Saturday 10th – Corymbia Multicultural Festival, Forrestfield

The 2018 Corymbia Multicultural Festival has something for everyone, with an exciting line up of fun and free activities on offer.  Come down to Hartfield Park from 2pm and enjoy: Live Performances, carnival Rides, Inflatable Bouncy Castle and Endurance Challenges, Cultural Arts & Crafts Workshops, Face Painting and DIY Henna Tattoos, Where in the World Map and Language games, Laser Tag, Fireworks Finale and much more! 2pm – 8pm. Saturday 10th – Cambridge Street Festival, Wembley

Cambridge Street is once again set to be transformed into a dynamic community space, with live entertainment, pop up market stalls, amusement rides, children’s entertainment, circus performers and loads of community group participation. Saturday 10th – Glow Wheel Parade, Beckenham

Grab your bike and join in for the Glow Wheels Parade in celebration of Bike Week. There will be loads of free activities for the whole family including: Outdoor glow disco with live DJ, decorate your face and body with our glow in the dark face paint, pop on some glow in the dark nail polish or spray your hair with neon hairspray, The kids can create their own glowy masterpieces in our glow craft zone, Free bike engraving by Neighbourhood Watch, Prizes and giveaways and Bouncy castle. 7pm – 10pm. Saturday 10th – Catalina Beach Park Opening, Mindarie

Rally your family and friends to come along and check out Perth's newest green space as we unveil the new $2M park and playground at Catalina Beach, Mindarie! The 8 metre tall play tower is just the tip of all the FREE fun lined up for the day including: Live DJ sets, Playground pirate treasure hunt, Balloon twisting & roving magic, - Junior bouncy amusements, Lawn games & beach sports and more. 3pm – 7pm. Sunday 11th – Splashfest, Swanbourne

Splashfest is set to come alive again on 11 March, ready to provide the best day of wet’n’wild fun under the sun. From 2pm to 5pm, Swanbourne Reserve is the best place to beat the heat for an afternoon of free, water-filled family fun with slides, rides, games, stalls and more. There is also a chillout marquee where people can take a break from making a splash to sit, relax and enjoy the cavalcade of entertainment on offer from various young performers. 2pm – 5pm. Wednesday 14th – World’s Biggest Playgroup Day, Whiteman Park

The World’s Biggest Playgroup Day is on again, and it is set to be a fantastic event with a whole lot of FREE fun and activities for you and your little superhero’s. You will be able to enjoy live entertainment, animal encounters, sport, music and craft activities, face-painting and so much more including: Scitech Bubble Show, Brownes’ Dairy Milking Demonstrations and Sample Truck,  African Drumming,  Animal Farm,  Birds of Prey,  Face Painting,  Obstacle Course,  Bouncy Castles, Roaming Monster Bubbles Show, Singing, Dancing and storytelling on stage. Plus the first 2000 kids who come along will also get to enjoy running around as superheroes for the day wearing special capes thanks to Brownes Dairy! 10am – 1pm. Saturday 17th – Alcoa Children’s Festival

Kwinana's big day out for children 0 to 12! Calista Oval will transform into a vibrant Children’s paradise filled with interactive science, art, music and environment activities.  Free and low-cost activities include: Supersonic Science workshops; Old McDonalds Farmyard; Arty Brellas (make your own for just $3); African Drumming workshops; OzKidz Karts; Under 5's Zone; Constable Care; Parents massage station; and Food trucks, coffee and more. 11am – 3pm. Saturday 17th – Neon Picnic, Hyde Park Perth

Come and bask in the musical majesty at this all-day event, as we chill out on the grass of Perth’s most beloved park. Bring the kids for a play on a bouncey castle, keep them busy at our arts and craft centre, and hula hooping workshops for the kids and adults. Saturday 17th- Little Scribblers, Langford

Grab your lab coat and safety glasses as Little Scribblers takes you into the science lab! A great day of family fun and free hands on activities for the young and the young at heart! Have fun with the family while you learn about science experiments, astronomy, forensics and so much more. There will be experiments to try, art and craft to take home and you can even discover the science of mural painting-by-numbers as you add your colours to a beautiful collective art piece with artist Mel McVee.Little Scribblers offers a great opportunity for all children to explore their creative talent and experience the fun of play and art. The day includes a variety of dance and music workshops, prizes, stage entertainment, roving performers, food stalls and heaps more. Sunday 18th – Harmonise Cultural Festival, Kewdale

Come and experience the City of Belmont’s cultural and ethnic diversity at a FREE cultural festival! Discover the world with music, activities and food celebrating the City’s unique heritage and multicultural character. Performers representing nations across the world will entertain you with musical performances and diverse dances ranging from hip hop to samba. Take part in free activities for all ages, be entertained by roving performers and enjoy free children’s rides including ‘Tiki Island’ inflatables and the family-favourite teacup ride. 3pm – 6pm. Monday 19th – Pop-up Nature Play, Wattle Grove

Bring the kids and come along to this fun-packed, pop-up PLAY day at Lenihan Nature Playscape in Wattle Grove! Fun for the whole family, this Nature Play Day will feature: A pop-up City of Kalamunda Library, Nature scavenger hunt, Bush Walks, Rock painting, Leaves under magnifying glasses, Big bug washing, Nature obstacle course and more! 9:30am – 11:30am. Friday 23rd – Evening in the Park, Bayswater

Unleash the family fun and get along to Bert Wright Park in the heart of Bayswater for an evening of free entertainment. There's lots to do and see, from live music to having a go at some creative crafts and a heap of fun activities for the kids to enjoy. Saturday 24th – EnviroFEST, Whiteman Park

Discover ways to become more ‘green’ and sustainable at home at this fun, family-friendly environment and conservation event!. Visitors to this family-friendly event will be able to browse through the range of displays, participate in workshops, listen in on short talks, pick up an array of eco-friendly products and discover community engagement opportunities to help you embrace sustainable living. The event features native fauna displays, renewable energy, native and organic seedlings for sale, workshops and a range of sustainable and healthy living products. The kids won’t miss out either, with eco-craft activities, free face painting, a Children’s Forest walk with the fairies and much more! 10am – 3pm. Saturday 24th – Astrofest, Curtin Uni

Astrofest is back in 2018 with an astronomcally awesome event the whole family will enjoy! Taking place at Curtin Stadium on Saturday the 24th of March, this astronomy festival of epic proportions will be an engaging  celebration of Australian science. As well as optical and radio telescopes observing throughout the day and night, Astrofest will feature a myriad of interesting, engaging and exciting indoor and outdoor activities for the whole family. There will also be many different telescopes to try out, or you can bring your own for some expert advice in getting the most out of it.
