We are lucky to live in a wonderful city that hosts so many free family friendly events, month after month. Here are the top FREE May 2018 Perth Family Events, so you can enjoy a day or night out with the family that won't break the bank.


Saturday 5th – Feel Good Pop Up, Cockburn Gateway

Take the first steps to a healthier you by coming along to the Feel Good Pop Up, a free event on healthy living in Cockburn. Lots of free activities for the whole family including: Henna painting, Kids physical health activities, Crossfit trials, Live music, Informative stalls, Health advice from onsite dietitian and more. 10am - 12pm. Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th – Stretch Arts Festival Weekend, Mandurah

Throughout the two day festival, participants can experience and enjoy performances, dance, music, visual arts, theatre and outdoor activities with events being delivered by renown and upcoming local , Australian and international companies and artists. Don't miss the giant illuminated puppet operated by the Spare Parts Theatre company. 10am - 10pm Saturday, 10am to 4pm. Sunday. Sunday 6th – Honey Festival, Yagan Square Perth

Different location, same amazing FREE event! Learn about cooking with honey, how to make beeswax candles or have a go at building bee boxes with beekeepers. Chat with Tintuppa Nursery, who specialise in bee friendly plants for your garden. They've got all the tips on what to plant for pollinators. Demonstrate your culinary skills by entering in the Great Honey Cake Competition or check out the highly anticipated honey judging comp! Sunday 6th – West Stirling Neighbourhood House 30th Anniversary, Doubleview

This is the BIG one! This year West Stirling Neighbourhood house is celebrating 30 years of support and Services to families in the community. Sunday 6th – Moondyne Festival, Toodyay

The legend of Moondyne Joe, the Avon Valley’s legendary bushranger transforms the picturesque historical town of Toodyay, Western Australia into a lively daylong festival. A highlight of the day being the re-enactment of Moondyne Joe’s various escapades throughout the town, his arrests and mock trials. Join in the fun with Moondyne Joe as he runs around town, robbing shops, escaping custody and being a general menace. Cheer on Joe’s gang, ‘floozies’, coppers, swaggies and the Town Crier. This is a FREE Festival from 9am to 4pm. Sunday 6th – Canning Vale Street Carnival

Sunday 6th – Mt Hawthorn Streets and Lanes Festival

Join the people of Mt Hawthorn as they take their party to the pavement along Scarborough Beach Road on Sunday May 6 - from Oxford Street to Coogee Streets and all the little nooks and crannies in between - for the 2018 Mt Hawthorn Streets and Lanes Festival. Sunday 6th – Hands on Heritage at Buckingham House, Wanneroo

In celebration of the 2018 Australian Heritage Festival, you are invited to visit one of Wanneroo’s historic gems for an afternoon of hands-on heritage fun. Learn some old fashioned skills, try your hand at some vintage games and cast yourself back in time in the Old Wanneroo Schoolhouse! A great event for all the family. Wednesday 9th – Bunnings Mother's Day Family Night

Bring the whole family down to your local Bunnings store to enjoy a night of free activities, food and giveaways. Thursday 10th – Walliston Pop-Up Play Day

Did you know that children aged 0-5 learn best through play? Bring the kids and come along to this fun-packed, pop-up PLAY day. Let's Go Wild is the theme of this event. Sunday 13th– Nature Play Mudders Day, Spearwood

Nature Play WA and City of Cockburn are excited to present Mudder’s Day, a free day of messy, family fun celebrating outdoor play with the most important woman in the world. This enormously FUN and interactive event provides families with the opportunity to spend time together in nature. There will be lots of challenges to get involved in all things muddy, including:  Mud kitchens, Mud sculpting, Muddy puddles, Mud-stacle course and slide, Mud Masks for mum or dad and Muddy treasure hunt! Wednesday 16th – Teddy Bears Picnic, Gosnells

Fun for the whole family. Bring the kids and join in the fun with messy activities, big games and sport equipment. Saturday 19th - Festival of Movement, Shelley

A brand new event for the City of Canning, The Festival of Movement is an event to celebrate 'movement' and inspire it's participants to celebrate a happy and healthy life. The hope is to bring together folks of all ages, walks of life, and fitness levels to encourage camaraderie, fitness, and the feeling of accomplishment. Featuring biking, rockclimbing, kids’ races, yoga, paddling, and even ultimate Frisbee and dodgeball tournaments, the festival showcases the fact that fitness can be universal — and universally fun. In a gorgeous outdoor setting with a “choose-your-own-adventure” style, the event will be packed with local and organic foods, plus exhibitors offering the latest in healthy living products and services. 10am - 3pm. Sunday 20th - Get into Health, Lake Claremont

Rain, hail or shine, on Sunday 20 May the community are invited to Get Into Health and enjoy the Lake Claremont vista for the annual Get Into Health event. The event is open to everyone, including seasoned runners, walkers, beginners and those wanting to have some fun. There are three courses, so you can choose your path to ‘get into health’. There'll be a range of prizes up for grabs throughout the morning as well! (Distances are not exact, but the race will be timed). Re-charge after the race, with some tasty healthy food options and takeaway coffee. There'll be kids games, warm-up and cool down stretches, a DJ, plus plenty of health, wellbeing and active-themed stalls to browse after your walk or run. Sunday 20th - Display Homes, Unicorns, a Willy Wonka Lolly Garden, Treeby

Celebrate the grand opening of the 28 brand new display homes at Stockland Calleya in Treeby with a garden party! Sunday 20th - The Maylands Street Festival 120

To celebrate 120 years since the naming of Maylands, there will be a day of family friendly activities in the centre of Maylands. There will be activities for the young and old - with roving historical entertainment, games, rides, Pop up bars and coffee shops will meet art installations to provide opportunities for all to enjoy themselves. Visit the Old Police Station to find out about our brickworks, Perth’s first airport and how we helped build WA’s pipelines; or relax with a drink and a snack whilst listening to great roving music, or bands on the main stage. Wednesday 23rd - Stargazing World Record Attempt, Bickley

Join an evening of fun and excitement as we try to break a Guinness World Record for Most People Stargazing Across Multiple Venues. For this record, the participants will stargaze at the Moon through a telescope or binoculars for a 10-minute period simultaneously across multiple sites throughout Australia. The current World Record, set in 2015 by the Australian National University, stands at 7,960 people across 37 locations. We are aiming to set a record so large that it will be nearly impossible to break again.This free community event will include a live screening of Stargazing Live with Brian Cox. 5pm - 8pm. Thursday 24th - O'Connor Baskin Robbins Opening Icecream Party

YAY, it’s party time at the O'Connor Baskin Robbins store and everyone gets a free ice cream! You are invited to a grand opening party with the new owners of the O'Connor store on May 24 between 4 - 7pm. Every guest will receive a FREE scoop AND the first 10 guests will receive free ice cream for a year.
