We are lucky to live in a wonderful city that hosts so many free family friendly events, month after month. Here are the top FREE October 2019 Perth Family Events, so you can enjoy a day or night out with the family that won't break the bank.

Monday 16th September to Sunday 13th October - Sense of Spring, Perth

Immerse your senses exploring Spring related installations throughout the City at Raine Square, 140, Carillon City, enex and Forrest Chase. Enjoy an abundance of colours, scents and sounds to evoke the sense of Spring, while getting the perfect Insta shot. Daily with various opening times, see website for details.

Tuesday 1st, Thursday 3rd and Saturday 5th - Paint by numbers Mural, Elizabeth Quay Perth

Join Melski McVee in painting a huge 60m long paint by numbers mural in the heart of Elizabeth Quay. Any age and skill type are welcome to join (although younger children need to be supervised by their parents whilst painting). Paint by numbers painting is easy, fun and a great way to meet people of all ages, young and old. 8:30am - 12pm. Elizabeth Quay, The Esplanade, Perth.

Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th - Groundswell Surf & Skate Festival, Scarborough

Scarborough’s ultimate youth festival, Groundswell is returning for its 6th instalment this October - and now across 2 massive days. October 5 & 6 will see Scarborough Beach and surrounds ignite with surfing, skateboarding, music, arts, markets, entertainment and for the first time ever a 3x3 street basketball comp!  Groundswell is a FREE community festival celebrating participation, sports, arts and the beachside culture that make Scarborough so unique. 7:20am - 6pm. Scarborough Amphitheatre, The Esplanade, Scarborough.

Saturday 5th - Pop Up Carnival, East Victoria Park

If you are looking for a fun day out for your family, this is the event for you. Featuring: Pony rides, Petting zoo, Bouncy Castles, Facepainting and more! While you’re there check out the newly redeveloped playground. 10am - 1pm. John Macmillan Park, Kent St, East Victoria Park.

Saturday 5th - Atlantis Beach Spring Launch, Two Rocks

Whether you’re an Atlantis Beach local, looking for your new beachside home, or just keen for a fun day out, you won't want to miss this FREE community event presented by Atlantis Beach.Lots of free family fun including Tunes, giveaways, live shout outs & more from Hit 92.9, The Perth Mermaids,  Life-sized sand sculptures of Atlantis's iconic marine park, Kids sandcastle competition, Mechanical surfboard for kids to ride on and so much more! 11am - 3pm. Atlantis Beach, 5 Constellation Entrance, Two Rocks.

Sunday 6th -  Armadale Highland Gathering and Fun Run

You don’t need to be Scottish to take part in this annual tradition, so gather your family and friends to enjoy the visual spectacle of kilts, bagpipes and a medieval fair. The morning begins with the fun and quirky Perth Kilt Run. The excitement doesn’t stop there. Following the Perth Kilt Run you’ll have the rest of the day to experience Scottish arts and crafts, highland dancing and bagpipe competitions, meet and greet Scottish dogs, watch the hotly contested Heavy Events competitions and of course test your taste buds with the infamous haggis and other Scottish delights. Let your imagination run wild in the medieval fair or the clan village and then kick up your heels with live music and Ceilidh dancing. 8:30am - 4:30pm. Sunday 6th -  Jarrahdale Log Chop and SJ Country Fair

The Jarrahdale Log chop remains WA’s biggest wood chop event.  Entrance is FREE and there will be over 70 stalls, including small goods sales, agriculture displays, sales of local produce, demonstrations by local groups, and rides for children, licensed bar and musical entertainment. 10am - 4:30pm. Jarrahdale Oval, 86 Millars Rd, Jarrahdale.

Sunday 6th - Bertram Mad Hatters Garden Party

Don't be late for this very important date! Come dressed as your favourite Alice in Wonderland character for FREE family fun at the William Bertram Community Centre. This event will include free games, snack plates, crafts, a photo booth, face painting and kooky hair spray. 1pm - 4pm. William Bertram Community Centre, Johnson Rd, Bertram.

Wednesday 9th - Cloisters Family Fun Day, Perth

Cloisters are taking some of the stress out of the holidays by hosting another Family Fun Day!  Take the opportunity to meet up with your loved ones for lunch at Cloisters, and keep the kids entertained, all in the one place! The best part …it's all FREE! Join in for three fun-filled hours of activities including a travelling animal petting zoo,  jumbo party games, face painting, balloon twisting, a ‘make your own taco’ class from our friends at Zambrero and much, much more. 11am - 2pm. Friday 11th to Sunday 13th - Forrest LIVE, Perth

Sunday 13th - Muddy Hands Festival, Wilson

The Muddy Hands Festival is an event to encourage children and families to enjoy playing outdoors and being among nature, bringing unstructured play into their everyday lives and enjoy one of many City of Canning parks. This free event features plenty of have a go activities aimed at children aged 3 - 15 (though of course all are welcome!) There will be Mud kitchens, Two giant mud pits (one for big kids, one for little kids), Mud sculpting and ochre face painting with Educated by Nature, Loose Parts Play. Sunday 13th - Buckingham House Open Day, Wanneroo

Bring your family to Buckingham House and the Old Wanneroo School House for an afternoon of hands-on heritage fun! Take a step back into the past and make some delicious damper, try your hand at some old fashioned washing, play some vintage games and get crafty with our free activities. 1pm - 4pm. 10 Neville Drive, Wanneroo.

Saturday 19th - Point Peron Community Open Day

Join Fairbridge WA in a FREE community open day at our Point Peron Camp School in Rockingham. Have a go at SUP boards, archery, abseiling, kayaking and rock climbing ALL FREE. Food trucks, music, games and prizes! 10am - 2pm. Point Peron Camp School, Point Peron Rd, Rockingham.

Sunday 20th - Children’s Week Family Fun Day at Whiteman Park

This year’s event will be jam packed full of FREE, fun activities for the whole family. Bring a healthy picnic and enjoy heaps of outdoors fun with your family.  Activities include A climbing wall, fun maze, obstacle course, birds of prey and lots lots more. 10am - 2pm. Sunday 20th - Children’s Week at the WA Shipwrecks Museum, Fremantle

Bring the whole family down for a special day, discovering some of the oldest known shipwrecks of Western Australia. Once you have explored the museum enjoy some fantastic free kids activities!  Make your own sun visor to stay safe in the sun, and take part in our sun prints workshop. All celebrating the 2019 theme of a Child's Right to be Healthy, Safe & Happy. 10am - 2pm. 45 Cliff St, Fremantle.

Sunday 20th - Mandurah Children’s Festival

The Mandurah Children's Festival is a FREE event which encourages participation in a number of fun family activities in a safe and friendly environment. There will be lots of activities, entertainment, learning opportunities and above all FUN!  FREE interactive workshops, FREE activities, FREE dress up competition, FREE stage entertainment  and lots more. 10am - 3pm. Eastern Mandurah Foreshore, Mandurah.

Wednesday 23rd - Teddy Bears Picnic, Spearwood

One of the best free events of the year is back bigger and better than ever with lots of free and fun activities for the kiddies. This event focuses on ages 0 - 5 and has regular live shows by Rock 'n' Toddle plus there will be a special guest appearance by ABC's most popular owls, Hoot and Hootabelle. It's not a true Cockburn Teddy Bears Picnic without your usual favourites including: Cuddly animal farm,Arts and craft activities, Hello Baby corner, Roaming teddies, Parenting information stalls, Rides and games. 10am - 1pm. Saturday 26th - RFDS Jandakot Open day

Head to Jandakot airport to experience a day in the life of the Flying Doctor. This is an interactive family-friendly event with kids activities, food trucks and other exhibitions on display. 10am - 4pm. 3 Eagle Drive, Jandakot.

Saturday 26th - Chemcentre Open Day, Bentley

Join your local chemists for a day of science entertainment and learn how chemistry helps protect our community. Tour our forensic science and environmental chemistry laboratories, have a blast at the explosive science shows, discover how we use science to help police investigate illicit drug laboratories and more! With ‘little hero’ missions for children, free soil analysis for the ‘green thumbs’, career information for the ‘future scientists’ - there will be something for everyone! Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th - Rockingham Foreshore Celebration

Come along to the City of Rockingham Foreshore Celebration and enjoy free family-friendly entertainment at the newly revitalised Rockingham Foreshore. There will be street performers, aerial acts, a variety of interactive workshops, mermaids, ponies, camels, silent disco, drumming circle, trishaw rides for seniors, a community lantern parade, Castaways Sculpture Exhibition plus much more! 11am - 8pm. Rockingham Beach Rd, Rockingham.

Sunday 27th - Live Lighter Basant Festival, Perth

This Live Lighter Basant Festival is a day filled with kids rides, free kite making and flying, multicultural performances and activities as well as delicious food and beverages.This is Perth's BIGGEST multicultural show and is a fun-filled festival day to entertain people of all ages and cultures packed with LOTS to do. 11am - 9pm. Langley Park, Riverside Drive, Perth.

Sunday 27th - Cockburn Rotary Spring Fair, Spearwood

Come down to Manning Park for the Cockburn Rotary Spring Fair. This years theme is creatures big and small and you will see some expected and not-so-expected creatures around the grounds. Included is all your favourites:

Arts and craft stalls, Roving acts, Sideshow Alley, Free games and activities, FROSH Youth Festival and stage performances all day, plus Take a wonder up to the Azelia Ley Homestead Museum and replenish your soul with workshops, yoga sessions, markets, healing and much more. Stick around for the evening and, weather permitting, there’ll be some fireworks. 11am - 8pm. Manning Park, 61 Azelia Rd, Spearwood.

Sunday 27th - Little Feet Festival, Joondalup

The biggest day of the year for children aged 12 and under is fast approaching as the City’s highly-popular Little Feet Festival returns to the grounds of ECU Joondalup on Sunday 27 October. In 2019 the Little Feet Festival transforms into an ‘Imagination Wonderland’ where children are encouraged to bring along their big ideas, explore their dreams and seek out inspiration through creativity and play. 12pm - 5pm. ECU Joondalup, 270 Joondalup Drive, Joondalup.

Free Outdoor Cinema Events

Take advantage of the warmer evenings and head to one of the free outdoor movies being screened around Perth during October. Bring along a picnic for the ultimate cheap night out.
