We are lucky to live in a wonderful city that hosts so many free family friendly events, month after month. Here are the top FREE October 2017 Perth Family Events, so you can enjoy a day or night out with the family that won't break the bank.

Saturdays & Sunday - Northbridge Piazza Spring Screenings

Pack a picnic or grab something from one of the surrounding restaurants, pull up a bean bag and enjoy a free family movie screening in the Northbridge Piazza. Free Flicks for Kids screen Satruday from 5.30pm and Sunday Spring Screenings show from 2pm. Find out what's on at

Sunday 1st – Perth Glory Family Fun Day, Hillarys Boat Harbour

Want to get up close and personal with Perth Glory? Head to Sorrento Quay Boardwalk on Sunday 1st October from 10am-3pm for the QBE Gloryus Family Fun Day. There will be heaps of free games and activities for the whole family to enjoy.  The whole Perth Glory squad will be there to meet and greet.

Sunday 1st and Saturday 28th – Free Entry ay Kalamunda History Village

Opening its doors for all families to visit free-of-charge, WA’s largest folk museum is a great day out exploring our state’s best-kept historic village. The original train station, historic cottages, school and post office are all here for you to see. 10am - 3pm.

Thursday 5th - Telethon Kids Institute's Discover Day, Subiaco

The Telethon Kids Institute’s free annual community event "Discover Day" is on again, and this year it’s bigger and better than ever!  Kids aged 4-12 can participate in a range of fun, family-friendly science activities and discover how our amazing researchers are improving the health and development of kids, families and communities in WA. This year Discover Day will expand outside to Hamilton Street and Mueller Park with more activities, more researchers and more fun than ever before. Saturday 7th – Lift Kids Pop up Carnival, Read Park Victoria Park

This FREE community event will feature Bouncy Castles, Pony Rides, Petting Zoo, Facepainting and more! 10am – 11:30am. Corner Albany Hwy and Salford St, Victoria

Saturday 7th - Heart of Gold Discovery Trail Launch, Elizabeth Quay Perth

Embark on a virtual gold trail of discovery from Elizabeth Quay to The Perth Mint and discover the rich history of a city built on gold and its importance to WA's development and future. Launch event attractions in Elizabeth Quay include gold panning with The Perth Mint, a virtual reality gold mine tour with Mining Education Australia, the Golden Eagle nugget replica, a virtual scavenger hunt, gold face painting and competitions. 10am to 3pm. Sunday 8th – Baldivis Fire Station Open Day

Come down to the station and sit in the trucks, squirt the hose and beep the horn. There will be practical demonstrations and advice on best preparing your property for the upcoming fire season. 10am – 4pm. Tranby Drive, Baldivis.

Sunday 8th – Buckingham House Open Day, Wanneroo

Bring your family to Buckingham House for an afternoon of hands on heritage fun! Make delicious damper, play old fashioned games and get crafty with the free activities. 1pm – 4pm. 10 Neville Rd, Wanneroo.

Tuesday 10th - Intergenerational Play Day at the Maritime Museum, Fremantle

Join Playgroup WA and the WA Maritime Museum for a fun-filled event with maritime-themed craft and activities including free interactive guided tours at 10.30am and 11.30am. Bring your grandparents or elderly family friends to enjoy this morning. 10am – 12pm.

Friday 13th to Sunday 15th – Swan Festival of Lights, Supreme Court Gardens Perth

Come celebrate Deepavali at the Swan Festival of Lights at Supreme Courts Gardens, Perth from Friday 13 October 2017 to Sunday 15 October 2017 with delicious food, fantastic performances and spectacular fireworks. This year’s Swan Festival of Lights will be celebrated through an array of dance, music, painting, rhythms and wondrous vegetarian food. From 4:30pm each day.

Friday 20th and Saturday 21st – Outdoor Movies In the Park, Stirk Park Kalamunda

Grab some popcorn and a blanket and settle down for a free family movie under the stars in Stirk Park, Kalamunda. Entry is free. Popcorn and bean bags available.‘Gates’ open 6:30pm, Screening commences at 7:30pm. Screening Pete’s Dragon on Friday 20th and A Dog’s Purpose on Saturday 21st. 6:30pm – 9:30pm.

Saturday 21st – Adventure Park Celebration, Aveley

Celebrate the opening of the Vale Adventure Playground! Plenty of fun for the kids with free face-painting, free sausage sizzle, free balloon twisting, free jumping castle, free popcorn and free rock decorating. 10am – 1pm. Egerton Drive, Aveley.

Sunday 22nd – Little Feet Festival Joondalup

Discover creative workshops, sensory play and live performances inspired by underwater sea creatures, tropical fish and mermaids.  There will also be face painting, roving entertainment and plenty of food trucks/vendors.  Entry and participation in all activities is FREE. Edith Cowan University, 1-5pm.

Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd – Kids Carnival, Forrest Place Perth

The carnival is coming to town and it’s bringing a truckload of fun with it, including rides, activities and giant games. 10am – 4pm.

Sunday 22nd – Children’s Weeks Fun Day at Whiteman Park

This year's event will be jam packed full of FREE, fun activities for the whole family. Bring a healthy picnic and enjoy the outdoors with your family. Some of the activities on offer will be: Conquer the Climbing Wall, Get lost in the Fun Maze, Embrace Aboriginal culture and history, Let your child test your skills in the toddler obstacle course, Get sustainable with Wonderful Worm Waste, Experience the wonder of the wild Birds of Prey plus much much more. 10am to 2pm.

Wednesday 25th – Teddy Bears Picnic, Manning Park Spearwood

Located in beautiful Manning Park, this year’s FREE event will include a live performance and meet and greet with the internationally renowned ‘Shaun the Sheep’ as well as: Parenting information and advice, Hello Baby corner, which includes free parent massage and 'Welcome baby to country', Cuddly farm animals, Teddy bear ‘fairy’ storyteller, Teddy bear biscuit decorating and arts and crafts and Parachute play. 10am to 1pm.

Saturday 28th – Fairies Picnic, Stirk Park Kalamunda

Bring your own picnic and everything else is FREE: including face painting, arts and crafts, balloon twisting, henna, glitter art, hair braiding, treasure hunts, lawn games, metallic tattoos, tug of war, and hand massages! There's truly something for everyone! . 10am - 2pm.

Sunday 29th - The Great Children's Week Nature Play Scavenger Hunt, Manning Park Spearwood

Nature Play Days offer families a chance to get their kids outside and mucking around. All of the activities are designed to be self-guided and encourage children to lead the way, and include elements of creativity, problem solving, adventure and fun. By downloading the Nature Play WA App free via iTunes or Google Play, families will be able to solve clues to find hidden markers that unlock activities and challenged which, when completed, reveal a secret message/code. 10am to 3pm. Sunday 29th - Byford Meadows Estate Family Fun Day

Come along and help celebrate our wonderful community and the opening of our new park. There will be heaps of fun for all the family including free music and free fun with bouncy castles, face painting, merry go round and petting farm. 11am to 2pm. Byford Meadows park on Lipizzaner Road.
